The FATP Production Technician (Rework) is responsible for identifying, troubleshooting, and repairing defects in products during the final stages of manufacturing. This role is critical to ensuring that only high-quality, fully functional units move forward to final packaging and shipment. The technician will focus on reworking non-conforming or returned units and support continuous improvement activities related to product quality and production efficiency


Job Description


Daily:


  • Perform inspection and functional tests on non-conforming units flagged during final assembly or testing.
  • Carry out rework and repairs (mechanical, electrical, firmware) per work instructions and engineering guidance.
  • Accurately log rework activities and defect details in MES or repair tracking systems.
  • Communicate with shift leads or engineers regarding abnormal findings.
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Comply with all ESD, safety, and quality control procedures.


Weekly:


  • Participate in defect trend reviews with quality and engineering teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement feedback for process enhancements.
  • Calibrate and check tools and equipment used for rework/repairs.


Monthly:


  • Attend training sessions or re-certifications for new products or rework procedures.
  • Assist with updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) when changes are made.
  • Provide feedback on recurring issues for root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).


Ad Hoc:


  • Support urgent rework or retrofitting campaigns for customer returns or engineering changes.
  • Assist in audits or customer visits as a technical point of contact on repair capabilities.
  • Train new hires or junior technicians on rework standards and techniques.
  • Follow any additional instructions or tasks assigned by the immediate superior


Technical Skills:


  • Soldering (through-hole & surface-mount), component replacement.
  • Use of hand tools (torque driver, tweezers, crimpers).
  • Understanding of schematics and rework instructions.


System Knowledge:


  • MES, ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Barcode scanning and traceability systems.


Soft Skills:


  • Clear communication and ability to follow written instructions.
  • Team collaboration and problem-solving mindset.
  • Time management and prioritization under production pressure.


Qualifications & Requirements:


  • Certificate / Diploma in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical and electrical engineering is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess good knowledge in continuous improvement mechanism.
  • Languages: English, Bahasa Melayu
